DECAY 'The exploration of the remains of the former German Democratic Republic (GDR). Destruction. Freedom. Destruction. Freedom. Self-Exploration. Love. Five years.' - "DECAY is a fine art documentary about Tobias' five year journey through several abandoned construction sites in the former German Democratic Republic. Having suffered from depression since his early childhood days, Tobias discovered that documenting abandoned buildings could be a means of emotional self-reflection. Exploring the brutal nature of the forgotten carcasses of a variety of buildings, ranging from abandoned hotels and hospitals to military bases, created his attraction to the disgustingly beautiful aura of apparent meaninglessness - a sense of unlimited freedom. Tobias' DECAY images portray the idea of abandonment and the search for one's own self, a core theme that continues throughout his photographic practice to this day."

Special thanks to Noirfoto Saigon, Pham Tuan Ngoc and Lilly Wong for organizing and curating the 'The New Photographers'-group-exhibition as well as to Patrick Carpenter, Brice Godard, Oliver Di Castanzo and Hoang Nam Viet for the opportunity to show my 'DECAY'-project alongside their projects. My contribution to the show consisted of 1 A2 and 18 A3 images in handmade wooden frames.
